The Storm
Day 72 - Deuteronomy 32:35
Scripture
Deuteronomy 32:35 NIV
It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.
Reflection
The Lord has compassion for His children because Jesus drank the cup of wrath meant for our sins. I am so grateful for the grace of God when I make mistakes, but in the same breath, I expect Him to hold others accountable who have intentionally harmed me. If I’m being honest, I’ve struggled with the idea of God forgiving certain people. But then I read scriptures like this one, and I’m reminded that He is supernaturally able to hold forgiveness and vengeance in tension, bringing justice for His children while extending mercy to those who have truly repented. I am learning to trust His judgment, and I find peace knowing that He is my defender.
I hope one day people look at my life and wonder why I’m so at peace. I hope they ask me, just so I can quote this scripture and tell them that I trust His judgment more than my own, even if I never see it come to pass in this lifetime. It’s honestly so freeing to let go and let God.
For most people, life is full of painful experiences. Some of the pain we have to live with is a direct result of someone else’s actions. Cruel people seem to get away with the most vile acts, leaving families in shambles. And like salt in a wound, it stings a little more when it looks like there are no consequences. But rest assured, there is no escaping judgment day.
Vengeance is His. Justice is His. So whatever you’re up against, trust God to handle it on your behalf. He is your protector, your defender, the jury, and the judge. He is all-knowing and never falsely accuses or wrongfully convicts anyone. You can let go of that unforgiveness, anger, and hatred in your heart, because He is a just God, and He will never get it wrong.
Prayer
Father, thank You for sending Your son to atone for my sins. Thank you for having mercy on Your children. Thank you for being my protector, defender, and savior. I want to take vengeance on those who have hurt me, but I trust You to do as You see fit. Please heal my heart, comfort me, and give me peace over the things I can’t control. Bring my offenders to repentance. Change their hearts, and soften mine. Forgive me for harboring anger, resentment, and unforgiveness. Help me to surrender it all to You. Teach me how to forgive the unforgivable. Bring justice in such a miraculous way that everyone who sees will know it was You. I thank You in advance as I wait expectantly. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
