Day 93 - Genesis 9:16
Scripture
Genesis 9:16 NIV
Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on earth.
Reflection
Recently, our family had a big scare. My one-year-old nephew suddenly became very ill and went unresponsive. At the time, my brother and his family were visiting his wife’s family in the Philippines. All we wanted to do was be there to comfort them. We were speechless in fear, and we felt so helpless. All we could do was pray and wait anxiously to hear back from them. My husband and I stepped outside to get some fresh air, and we saw the most beautiful rainbow I had ever seen. I knew in that moment that God heard our prayers. I knew He was holding our sweet nephew and comforting my brother and his family as they rushed him to the nearest hospital.
I am so thankful to say, he made a full recovery! I have never felt more relieved. Hallelujah!
When a storm comes, and you feel helpless, rest knowing that God hears your prayers. In the midst of tragedy, when you’re consumed with fear and worry ... remember that He tells us to have faith. Faith is the currency of the Kingdom of Heaven. I know that tragedies often lead to loss, and I’m not suggesting that faith will eliminate that possibility. If He is calling someone home, it might be time to say goodbye. I know that’s unimaginable at times. How could we be expected to let go while remaining here, separated and broken? How can I move on when a piece of my heart is missing? I can’t imagine what life would look like if things had gone a different direction.
But, I can have faith that God’s plan is better than mine … no matter how painful it is. I can trust that if I lose someone I love, they are gaining all of Heaven, and soon we will be reunited. I can let love guide me back to the cross. So when you pour your heart out to God and lay your burdens down—trust Him. Believe that you have received it! No matter how impossible the situation seems, keep your eyes on Him. He is holding you, your family, and your dreams. One day, you’ll look back and see the rainbow on the other side of the storm.
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your promises. Thank You for Your goodness and mercy. Thank You for hearing our prayers when we feel hopeless. Thank You for sending us a beautiful sign to remember how faithful you are. Thank You for flooding me with peace when I feel helpless and joy when I am overcome with worry. Please comfort me when I am filled with worry, stress, fear, and heartbreak. Comfort those who are devastated with grief and sorrow. Carry them through the storms of this life, and fill them with peace and joy, Father. Forgive me when I focus more on the storm and my emotions than I do Your promises and provision. Teach me to keep my eyes on You, Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
Reflection Question
Can you think of a specific moment when you desperately called out for Jesus, and He answered your prayers?
When you look back on the storms you’ve walked through, what promises did God reveal to you on the other side?
Thank You!
