Day 90 - Proverbs 3:5-6
The Scripture
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
The Reflection
I have always been a planner.
Although planning can be a good thing, there were times when plans didn’t go my way, and I felt the walls crumbling down. Every time this happened, I would experience crippling indecisiveness. I was great at accomplishing predetermined goals, but I have always struggled to pivot when necessary.
Eventually, I reached a point in life when I checked off all of my predetermined boxes, and I found myself feeling more lost than ever. I would tire myself out trying to create a fulfilling life. Again and again, I would attempt to muster up some sort of direction, but everything I tried left me feeling empty.
When COVID came, I was forced to operate in the unknown. I had no choice but to accept spontaneity and learn to enjoy it. It was one of the biggest blessings in my life. I learned to fully trust God’s plan. For the first time, I felt at peace. I realized my constant need for control was preventing me from embracing the unexpected joys God had in store for my family and me. My plans went out the window, and I have never felt more at peace.
As women, we are often tasked with being the planners of the family. The one who is constantly anticipating the needs of the family and preparing accordingly. It’s a natural God-given instinct to nurture and care for those around us. Sometimes, this loving act can turn us into little controlling monsters. Unable to trust anyone but ourselves to complete the task to the level of our own expectations. It keeps us from accepting help. It keeps us in a miserable state and pushes away anyone who is trying to help ease the burden. It can cause a divide in the marriage if we aren’t careful.
I want to remind you that God is the original creator, planner, and caretaker. He anticipated our needs flawlessly, created us to work in perfect harmony with nature, and orchestrated a unique balance of man and woman. Masculine and feminine. You can trust Him. You can trust His plan, His purpose, and His timing. You can submit to Him in all your ways. He will make your paths straight.
